A language the person communicates in, and whether it is the one they prefer, as the person states it or as a caregiver states it on their behalf. It has the same shape as communication and is kept apart from it: communication carries what source systems said about the person, and this extension carries what the person says. A record carries one instance per language, and preferred appears on at most one of them.
